U.S. Secretary of Commerce Speaks with Sachem Students

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross will take time out of his busy schedule on Friday afternoon to chat via Skype with Sachem students.

As part of a new Alumni Mentor Series the school district has launched through its Sachem Alumni Association, Secretary Ross will field questions from Advanced Placement economics students.

The connection with Secretary Ross comes through Lori Ann LaRocco, the senior guest producer at CNBC, best selling author and Sachem alumnus. Secretary Ross is featured in all three books she has written, including full chapters in “Thriving in the New Economy,” “Dynasties of the Sea,” and he wrote the afterword of “Opportunity Knocking.”

Aside from getting a first-person interpersonal experience with one of the most influential men in American business and politics, this moment for Sachem students will provide a glimpse into the life of LaRocco, who has built an incredible rolodex of contacts that allow her to produce content for her network at a very high level.

NOTE: Mr. Ross will not be available for interviews, but students, staff and Ms. LaRocco will be.

DATE: March 31, 2017

Ross on the prospect of speaking to Sachem students: “Education is the foundation of a solid future not just for our young people but for our country and our economy,” said Secretary Wilbur Ross. “I am glad for the opportunity to engage with some of the students at Sachem. I look forward to encouraging them in their studies and to sharing some of the lessons I have learned over my years in business and my short time in government.”

LaRocco on this unique opportunity and experience: “As a proud alumnus of Sachem it is an honor to be able to give students this once in a lifetime opportunity to speak with U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. I have been covering Secretary Ross’ business career for almost seventeen years at CNBC. From coal, to steel, banking, auto parts, to shipping Secretary Ross can provide students with a unique look at the U.S. and global economy.  This is a wonderful learning experience for the students to hear from Secretary Ross.”

Chris R. Vaccaro, Sachem Alumni Association president, on the benefit for students: “When we launched the Sachem Alumni Association this is the type of exposure and unique experience we were expecting to create for our students. This shows the power and wide reach of our alumni base. Lori Ann is a juggernaut in her field and to bring in someone like Mr. Ross for a chat with Sachem students is unbelievable. We are truly grateful for our alumni and all they continue to do for Sachem.”

The Sachem Alumni Mentor Series is debuting in conjunction with the launch of the newly formed Sachem Hall of Honor, which will have its first induction on Saturday morning. LaRocco is one of the inductees.
